Description: Subway was opened by the then 17 year old Fred DeLuca a 17-year-old college freshman, and family friend Dr. Peter Buck in 1965. The first restaurant opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA on August 28 and was called Pete’s Super Submarines. The first franchised SUBWAY® unit opened in 1974 in Wallingford, Connecticut. The popularity of Subway soon spread and in 2008, it was operating more than 30,000 stores in 86 countries.
